Pre-engagement preparation
FOR HIGH-STAKES, NO-FAIL SITUATIONS
Do you find yourself dealing with HIGH-STAKES, NO-FAIL SITUATIONS every day?
Do you meet with prospective clients, speak from the stage, manage meeting after meeting, counsel emotional employees, or even harder…engage emotional teenagers?!
It’s called Pre-Engagement Preparation (P-E-P) and it can work for you as well.
P-E-P is a performance-oriented warm-up designed to help leaders dominate high stakes engagements by regulating breath, lowering cortisol, and entering into a calm and connected state.
P-E-P can be used before you go into a high-stakes sales pitch with prospects or clients, when transitioning through multiple meetings, or even before leaving the office to go home and embrace your loved ones.
Conduct P-E-P within five minutes
of your high-stake engagement
STEP 1
Step into a corner or quiet area just outside of your engagement zone where you won’t be interrupted.
STEP 2
Take 3 deep, lower-body breaths. Breathe in through your mouth, expand your belly on the inhale, squeeze belly to spine on the exhale.
STEP 3
Slowly say the words, “I have time.”
Repeat 3 times.
STEP 4
Ask these questions and answer them out loud:
“Who am I?” “Why am I here?” “What do they need from me?”
STEP 6
Open your eyes and do a few ballistic stretches.
